If you want to adopt a cute little kitten, your first idea is likely to go to an animal shelter. However, have you ever thought of going to ... a library or a school?
It is a library located outside of Halifax in Nova Scotia, Canada that has taken an innovative approach to persuading people to save cats. When you come to browse for a good read or grab a glass of joe, you will discover something out of the ordinary. Unusually cool, that is. the cats! And a lot of them! Playing and napping between books. And you might read Dr. Seuss's book The Cat in the Hat when no one is looking. The best part is, you can adopt any of the library's cats and give them the home they deserve forever. Cats, coffee and books. Can it get any better than that?
Library owner Ellen Helmke told Narcity that there were many kittens and "usually a mama cat too" in the store at any time. But bookstore kittens aren't just a walk out of the cold. They are supplied by Pau Nova Scotia South Rescue Group.
Helmke started her cat adoption program last year when she realized there was a lot of space in her store for the cutest cats. To date, more than 30 cats have been adopted from the library. We are sure that this number will rise. "People come here specifically to see this lovely cats, and then some people just wander in to look at the books and discover the existence of cats and have agood time," he said. "Either way, the response was really cool - I mean, who doesn't like cats and whana adopted them, right?"
